The graded stakes action will begin on Saturday at Belmont Park with the $400,000 Beldame Stakes. A Grade 1 event carded at a mile and an eighth, the winner will also earn an automatic berth in the Breeders Cup Distaff.
Wedding Toast tops the field of six fillies and mares as the morning line favorite at odds of 6-5 for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. A dark bay daughter of Street Sense, the five-year-old mare has been on the board in ten of her eleven starts and is a seven-time winner. She has won her last two starts, both against graded stakes competition, and was last seen winning the Odgen Phipps Stakes (G1). Jose Lezcano will be aboard from post position two.
Curalina taking on older horses
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Curalina, the lone three-year-old filly in the field taking on older rivals. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the chestnut daughter of Curlin has won four of her six starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. After four straight wins, she was third last time out in the Alabama Stakes (G1). John Velazquez will be in the irons and they are scheduled to break from the rail.
Catch My Drift getting a class test
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Catch My Drift for trainer Chad Brown. A four-year-old daughter of Pioneerof the Nile, she has been on the board in six of her nine starts and has four victories to her credit. She is stepping up to graded stakes competition after winning the Summer Colony Stakes at Saratoga last time out and will have Irad Ortiz, Jr. aboard from post position four as she goes for her first graded stakes win.
