On Sunday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the $100,000 Haynesfield Stakes. Restricted to horses bred in New York, the race will be contested at a mile and a sixteenth and has drawn a field of nine colts and geldings.
Royal Posse, one of two horses in the race for trainer Rudy Rodriguez, has been tabbed as the morning line favorite at odds of 4-5. A five-year-old son of Posse, the bay gelding has won six of his 26 starts and is a multiple stakes winner. After winning a minor stakes race against open company at Gulfstream Park in December, be returned to New York and was second in the Jazil Stakes last time out. Junior Alvarado will be aboard and they will break from post position eight.
Saratoga Snacks making first start of the year
Second choice at morning line odds of 5-2 is Saratoga Snacks for trainer Gary Sciacca. A seven-year-old son of Tale of the Cat, he is a nine-time winner and a multiple stakes winner against state-bred competition. He is coming out of a runner-up finish in the Alex M. Robb Stakes and has had several workouts in New York in preparation for his seasonal debut. Angel Arroyo will be aboard and they will break from the rail.
Ostrolenka trying to rebound off last race
Also in the field at morning line odds of 15-1 is Ostrolenka for trainer Todd Pletcher. A four-year-old son of Musket Man, the bay colt has won four of his thirteen starts and was a stakes winner at both two and three-years-old. He is trying to rebound after finishing eighth in the Alex M. Robb Stakes in December and has been training steadily since then. Christopher De Carlo will be aboard and they will break from post position seven.
