Goldencents Back to Defend Title in $1 Million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile
The Breeders Cup action at Santa Anita continues with the $1 million Dirt Mile featuring the reigning champion Goldencents. The Grade 1 race has drawn a field of nine rivals to take on the defending winner in the one mile contest.
Goldencents, tabbed as the morning line favorite at odds of 6-5, will be making his first start for trainer Leandro Moro while regular trainer Doug O’Neill sits out with a suspension. The four-year-old son of Into Mischief was last seen finishing second, beaten a nose, to Hong Kong invader Rich Tapestry in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship. He is going for the seventh win of his career and will break from the rail under Rafael Bejarano.
Fed Biz cutting back to a mile after taking on Shared Belief
Fed Biz, last seen finishing second to the undefeated Breeders’ Cup Classic favorite Shared Belief, is second choice at 7-2 on the morning line. Trained by Bob Baffert, the five-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway has been on the board in all three starts this year, all of which came against graded stakes competition. He has won three times at Santa Anita and will have regular rider Martin Garcia aboard. The pair will break from post eight.
2013 Dirt Mile runner-up Golden Ticket back for another try
Also in the field and a longshot at 15-1 on the morning line is Golden Ticket, the runner up in the 2013 Dirt Mile (G1). Trained by Ken McPeek, the five-year-old son of Speightstown earned the biggest victory of his career in a dead-heat victory in the 2012 Travers Stakes (G1). He has one win from eight starts this year, a narrow decision in the Left Bank Stakes at Belmont. Joel Rosario will be aboard and they will break from post position six.
