Field of Seven Set for Broadway Stakes on Valentine's Day from "Big A"
The $100,000 Broadway Stakes is the featured race Saturday, February 14 at Aqueduct with a field of seven New York-bred fillies and mares set to contest the six furlong sprint on the main track.
Isabelle is the 5/2 morning line favorite for trainer Bill Mott after rattling off consecutive allowance wins at Saratoga and Aqueduct despite a lengthy break between races. Her last start January 29 at Aqueduct marked the four year-old filly’s first race since an August 13 allowance score at Saratoga – a factor that could indicate her readiness to take another step forward. Isabelle has won four of seven career starts including the Bouwerie Stakes at Belmont last May. She will break from post four with Junior Alvarado in the irons.
Blithely tries to turn the tables
Blithely, the 3/1 second choice will break from the rail for trainer Mark Hennig after running third behind Isabelle in the January 29 allowance race at Aqueduct. The four year-old daughter of Exchange Rate has won four of eight career starts for career earnings of $188,210, finishing off-the-board just once. Jockey Manuel Franco gets the call and figures to have the filly close to the early leaders.
Consistent filly goes for stakes win
Atlantic’s Smile (7/2) is a five year-old mare trained by Charlton Baker. The daughter of Stormy Atlantic has won 4 of 14 career starts for earnings of $226,423, and enters the Broadway in good form having finished first or second in three of her last four efforts.
