On Monday at Woodbine, the featured race is the $150,000 Carotene Stakes. Restricted to three-year-old fillies bred in Ontario, the race has been carded at a mile and an eighth on the turf and has drawn a field of seven.
Conquest Strate Up tops the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 8-5 for trainer Mark Casse. Purchased for $57,000 by Conquest Stables as a juvenile, the bay daughter of Not Bourbon is undefeated from three starts. After breaking her maiden in her debut, she won an optional claiming race in her next start and made her stakes debut a winning one last time out in the La Prevoyante Stakes at Woodbine. Alan Garcia will be aboard and they will break from post position six.
Well-bred Moon Rainbow looking for first stakes win
Second choice at morning line odds of 9-5 is Moon Rainbow for trainer Malcolm Pierce. Bred and owned by Sam-Son Farm, the chestnut filly is by Smart Strike and out of a graded stakes placed mare. She has two wins from three starts and will be trying to earn her first stakes victory. She was last seen winning an allowance race at Woodbine. Eurico Da Silva will be in the irons and they will break from the outside post as she goes for two in a row.
Dyna's Recoleta rounding into competitive form
Also in the field at morning line odds of 4-1 is Dyna’s Recoleta, one of two fillies in the race for trainer Roger Attfield. A dark bay daughter of Dynaformer, she has been on the board in three of her eight starts and is trying to earn her second career victory. A homebred for Charles Fipke, she broke her maiden in her seventh career start and was third against stakes company last time out. Emma-Jayne Wilson will be aboard from post four.
