75 K Tropical Park Oaks Part of Solid Gulfstream Card
The 26th running of the Tropical Park Oaks Saturday, December 20 at Gulfstream Park features a full field of 14 fillies set to go a mile and one sixteenth on the grass in an enticing betting race.
Party Now is the 3/1 morning line favorite for trainer Shug McGaughey after posting an emphatic four length victory against $80,000 optional claimers November 14 at Aqueduct. It was Party Now’s first race nearly six months, but the three year-old daughter of Tiznow responded with her best race – earning a 94 Beyer Speed Figure in the process, and her third career victory in six starts. Party Now has shown a front-running or stalking style in all of her races and should benefit from an inside post position under jockey John Velazquez.
Dancing House classy and in good form
Dancing House (4/1) is a versatile type of filly who has run well in both of her starts in 2014 after being sidelined nearly a year following the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf – her only off-the-board finish in six career starts. The Kiaran McLaughlin trainee has shown the ability to race close to the pace or pass horses from mid-pack, giving jockey Irad Ortiz plenty of options. Ortiz will be aboard Dancing House for the fifth time in the Tropical Park Oaks.
Sandiva hampered by poor post
Sandiva, also 4/1 on the morning line, will be disadvantaged by starting from post position 14, and must overcome a wide trip under jockey Javier Castellano. Sandiva has 4 wins in 11 career starts and has race exclusively against stakes company since coming over from Great Britain in June.
