$100,000 Juvenile Filly Turf Full of Betting Intrigue
The $100,000 Juvenile Filly Turf Preview November 8 at Gulfstream West is a puzzling betting race with little separating the top contenders in the one mile race.
As the 5/2 morning line favorite, Magnificent Margo is the undisputed class of the race having run in stakes races at Saratoga and Keeneland in her last two starts. The Michael Maker trainee was overmatched in both of those outings, however, finishing fifth and seventh by a combined margin of nearly 15 lengths. On the positive side, Magnificent Margo broke her maiden at Saratoga in her debut and has clearly danced with much more talented fillies than she’ll encounter in this race leaving handicappers to decide whether the considerable class edge will be worth the short price.
Like A Queen improving by leaps and bounds
Like A Queen (3/1) appears to be a rapidly improving filly for trainer Antonio Sano since switching to the turf two starts back. In her first start on grass July 14 at five furlongs against maiden special weight foes, Like A Queen demonstrated a powerful closing kick to win going away. The daughter of Corinthian then came back off nearly a three month break to defeat stakes company going a mile on turf – an ultra-impressive performance considering the layoff and added distance.
First-time turfer could be live long-shot
Discreet Romance (8/1) has some turf in her pedigree, but probably lacks the seasoning to pose a serious threat against this bunch. Still, she could hang around longer than expected given her early speed.
